Good Works Inspiration ~ Kid Are Heroes!

The guiding principle of 4virtu is "Changing the world one virtuous community at a time". We chose this principle as the cornerstone of our business model as it reflects our goal to promote and inspire good works; support and enrich families; and connect and sustain businesses and neighborhood organizations. As we network and connect within our communities and online, we encounter people who are Good Works Inspirations ...
The Good Works of volunteerism, compassion and charity are all values that we hope to instill in our children.  These qualities form the cornerstone of the development of future Leaders.  An organization that is passionate about our future Leaders is Kids are Heroes.  I had the pleasure of connecting with Gabe O'Neill, Co-Founder of KidAreHeroes.org to find out more about the Good Works going on and their role in recognizing super hero kids!

The original inspiration for Kids are Heroes came from Gabe's then 9 year old daughter, Mary Margaret, who approached her Dad two years ago to ask him to build a website.  "Mary Margaret wanted me to build a website to help animals.  I asked her if we should help people too and the environment.  It blossomed into more and Kids are Heroes began."

The website that began with Gabe and Mary Margaret has now blossomed into a busy hub and social networking connection for kids all over the world that are active in their communities and setting the bar for giving.  Kids are Heroes features over 100 kids throughout the United States and they now have participation from children in England and Africa.

Gabe explained his inspiration for Kids are Heroes: "We want to encourage volunteerism as part of every day.  The skills that they are learning makes leaders out of kids.  Through volunteering, they learn public speaking, research, how to work on a team, delegating and so importantly, self confidence.  The networks that they are setting up now will be their networks as adults."

Mary Margaret is up for a Discovery Girls Role Model award (check out her entry and blog here!) and works hard with her Dad on Kids are Heroes, as well as her own personal initiatives.

Utilizing social media, Kids are Heroes are spreading the word about this amazing group of kids.  October 23 is "Kids are Heroes" day and they are having a banquet that will be attended by some of these incredible kids.  Big plans abound for the future and you can help!  Please make sure to visit them online and support their Good Works!

Thank You, Mary Margaret, Gabe and All the Heroes!  You truly are our Heroes!
